12th Annual Willys Picnic

by carl on June 27, 2011

It was that time of the year again – The 12th annual Willys Picnic!

The picnic was held on Sunday, June 12th at the Number 9 Mine in Lansford, PA. and unlike other years, the rain showers actually held off this time. The show attracted many Willys owners, enthusiasts, and even non Willys owners from all over the East Coast to enjoy the day and to talk about both past and current experiences about their Jeeps.

While there were a lot of exciting moments at the picnic, one of my favorites (besides getting a pretty interesting mine tour) was being able to see the original “Nellybelle” Jeep. If you don’t remember, this Jeep was in the 1950s television show, the Roy Rogers Show. The “Nellybelle” Jeep was in its original condition and it took many of us event goers back in time to when we used to watch that show as kids.

It was no surprise that this show was fun for all who attended. It showcased over 50 Jeep vehicles, which varied from Military Models, CJ, Station Wagons, and trucks. Because there is always such a great turn out, this coming year, the picnic will actually be moved to Kempton, PA. This new location offers a bigger parking area and even a train ride for attendees. More details will be available at the beginning of next year so be on the look out!

Special thanks goes out to Bob Westerman and everyone who puts this show together for all of us to enjoy. Hope to see you there next year!
